China was the largest source of visitors for Japan in the first 10 months of this year, and arrivals from China at 4.28 million during that period nearly tripled that of the same period last year.

Citing the latest data released on November 18 by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) , the Mainichi Shinbun reported that overseas visitor arrivals to Japan surged 48.2% y-o-y in the first 10 months of this year to about 16.32 million, exceeding the record total of 2014.
China was the largest visitor source market during the period, followed by Korea and Taiwan, at 3.23 million and 3.11 million respectively.
JNTO forecasts that the number of visitors to Japan will exceed 19 million this year, and the Japanese government has lifted the projected 2020 target of overseas visitor arrivals to 30 million, from the original target of 20 million, given the current remarkable growth.(Translation by David)
