The Chilean government announced that Chinese nationals holding a US or Canadian visa with over six-month validity are allowed visa-free entry into Chile for tourism or business.
The policy allows Chinese visitors to stay up to 90 days with the option of extending their stay for an additional 90 days in the country. A spokesperson from the Chilean embassy in China said the Chilean government also plans to relax visa restrictions for Chinese nationals holding EU Schengen visas in the future.
Following the latest trend of countries offering favorable visa policies to attract Chinese tourism, Chile hopes to attract 40% more Chinese visitors every year. Chile’s tourism department recorded 11,000 visits by Chinese tourists in 2014, a slight increase from only 6,000 in 2008.(Translation by David)
