The new route will make Air Canada the only North American carrier flying direct to Guangzhou.

Air Canada recently announced:

Starting May 4, 2027, it will launch year-round non-stop service between Vancouver and Guangzhou, operating three weekly flights with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

This will also make Air Canada the only North American carrier operating direct flights to Guangzhou, a major economic and aviation hub in southern China.

For a long time, the Guangzhou-North America air market has been largely dominated by Chinese airlines.

Routes such as Guangzhou–Vancouver and Guangzhou–Toronto have long been operated by China Southern Airlines. Previously, China Southern also ran a Guangzhou–Vancouver–Mexico City service, further extending Guangzhou’s international network into Latin America.

This highlights the long-standing and stable passenger demand between Guangzhou and North America.

For Air Canada, Vancouver serves as a key hub linking Asia Pacific and North America.

Passengers from Guangzhou arriving in Vancouver will be able to connect to other Canadian cities, as well as destinations in the United States through Air Canada’s North American network. Through this new service, Air Canada aims to tap into travel demand from the Pearl River Delta and feed more passengers into its broader North American network.
