China is now considered as safe to travel to as France and Germany, by the U.S.

On November 27, the U.S. Department of State downgraded its travel advisory for U.S. citizens traveling to China from Level 3 to Level 2.

This move had been under consideration for months, with discussions about relaxing the advisory dating back to April. At the time, Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell acknowledged that the travel warning could be hindering normal exchanges between the U.S. and China.

The advisory downgrade aligns China’s travel status with that of other Western nations such as France and Germany, which have similarly low-risk levels for U.S. travelers.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded positively on November 28, stating that China welcomed the adjustment, believing it would smoother exchanges between the two countries.

"We have always opposed artificially creating a 'chilling effect,' and we hope that the U.S. will continue to foster more opportunities for cultural and people-to-people exchanges," she said at a regular press conference.

The American Chamber of Commerce in China also praised the decision, calling it an “excellent development” that could help ease tensions and encourage more Americans to visit China.
