Figures unveiled by the ministry on Friday show that in the first half year of the year, the domestic tourism spots received about 2.73 billion visits, up 14.3 percent year-on-year.
Among these tourism visits, about 2.09 billion were made by residents living in urban areas and 638 million by rural residents.
According to the ministry, the domestic travelers spent 2.73 trillion yuan ($376.4 billion) on tourism activities, increasing by 19 percent year-on-year, during the first six months of the year.
