A total of 2.36 million flights took off from China’s airports in the first half of 2019, the second highest number in the world after the US. The on-time rate of China’s flights was 74.32% and the average delay was 29.05 minutes, according to a VariFlight report on global airports and airlines on-time rate for the half of 2019, released on July 12.
During the tracked period, a total of 18.18 million flights departed from airports around the world. The on-time rate was 75.44% and the average delay was 26.75 minutes, according to the report.
Flights departing from Japan, Russia and France had the highest on-time rates. China ranked 7th in on-time rate, ahead of the US, India and Germany.
Among large and medium sized airports, Japan's New Chitose Airport and Osaka Itami International Airport ranked top in punctuality. The former was the only one to have achieved above 90% punctuality rate. China’s Dalian International Airport and Urumqi Diwopu International Airport ranked the 8th and 9th in the same list.
Among Asia-Pacific large carriers, All Nippon Airways was the most punctual carrier, followed by Korean Air and Japan Airlines.
Citilink Indonesia was the most punctual medium-sized carrier. China’s Spring Airlines was among the top 10 in that list.
