Chinese tourists flock to Southeast Asia as overseas travel bounces back

Hotel bookings for Bangkok tripled over the period from Feb 10 to 13 year on year, while those for Singapore jumped ninefold.

Chinese travelers significantly increased their visits to tourist hot spots in Asia during the Chinese New Year break.

Popular destinations like Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia saw visitor numbers and spending exceed pre-pandemic levels.

Reflecting the boost from visa waivers, hotel bookings for Bangkok tripled over the period from Feb 10 to 13 year on year, while those for Singapore jumped ninefold, according to travel platform LY.com.

Despite economic challenges, Chinese tourists continue to spend on travel, with travel-related spending expected to outpace overall domestic consumption.
