ChinaTravelNews - Alitrip recorded over RMB1.5 billion (approx:US$235 million) in transactions on the Singles Day online shopping festival of November 11. The transactions included over 800,000 bookings for outbound tourism products, over 860,000 hotel room nights and over 300,000 international plane tickets. More than 30 Alitrip suppliers achieved single-day turnover of RMB10 million (approx:US$1.5 million)and two suppliers sold over RMB100 million(approx:US$15 million).
Singles Day sales were spurred by an increasing number of users shopping “on-credit”. Within three minutes of opening booking payments at midnight of November 11, Alitrip already had over RMB100 million in transactions. The volume doubled in another 13 minutes, and by 9:20 AM the amount of transactions already matched last year’s whole-day turnover on Singles Day.
Outbound tourism products proved to be some of the hottest items, with over 10,000 transactions for each individual destinations like the US, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
This year’s top two performers on Alitrip’s Singles Day sales were CYTS Tour’s flagship and Shanghai Ever Bright Town International Travel Service. They each recorded over RMB100 million in transactions. Utour’s Shanghai branch and Beijing Jiuzhou Jinyuan also chalked up sales of almost RMB90 million.(Translation by David)
