China Southern Airlines has become the world’s third largest airline having carried more than 100 million passengers/trips annually, according to International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) latest data.
It’s ranked in the top five global airlines along with Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and American Airlines.
As international air routes are the major battlefronts for the world’s major carriers, China Southern as the largest carrier in the Asia-Pacific is stepping up efforts to open more long-haul services to the Europe, the US and Australia. It will upgrade the aircraft for European services, using Boeing 777 for its Guangzhou–Paris service from September. It has also increased the number of services to Australia and introduced the newer A330 series aircraft to serve some routes to the destination.
China Southern will also boost its US services in June. Its Guangzhou-LA service will be increased to 11 flights weekly and the Guangzhou-New York service will be increased to10 flights weekly using Boeing 777 aircraft. The Guangzhou-San Francisco service will increase by four flights served by Boeing 787 aircraft, to complement the Guangzhou-Wuhan-San Francisco service.
China Southern will launch a Guangzhou-Nairobi direct flight on August 5 to connect China with the capital of Kenya and economic and media center of east Africa. Following the launch it will also open a second China-Africa service from Shenzhen to Mauritius.(Translation by David)
