On November 26, Airport Authority Hong Kong and Zhuhai Transportation Holdings Group signed a shareholding cooperation agreement in Zhuhai.
Under the agreement, Airport Authority Hong Kong will invest approximately RMB 4.3 billion (nearly USD 600 million) to acquire a 35% stake in Zhuhai Airport.
The equity partnership strengthens the cooperation between both parties and extends the operation and management rights of Zhuhai Airport Management Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Airport Authority Hong Kong, until 2046.
The "Fly Via Zhuhai-Hong Kong" program, launched in a collaboration with the Zhuhai municipal government on December 12, 2023, has leveraged the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge’s land connectivity to improve travel convenience. The initiative allows passengers from mainland China to transit through Zhuhai on their way to Hong Kong for international flights.
Although Zhuhai Airport still lags behind other major airports in the Greater Bay Area in terms of scale, it is actively working to enhance its infrastructure.
The construction of the T2 terminal is progressing well, with 90% of the project completed. It is expected to be largely finished by the end of this year, with final acceptance scheduled for May 2025.
