The total number of entries and exits by residents of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign nationals has recovered to 92% of the same period in 2019.

At the 2024 Inbound Tourism High-Quality Development Conference held in Hefei on September 10, the China Tourism Academy released the "China Inbound Tourism High-Quality Development Report," highlighting consistent positive momentum in the country’s inbound tourism in the first half of 2024.

Xiangyan Liu, head of inbound tourism research at the China Tourism Academy, said that the total border inspections for residents of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign nationals recovered to 92% of 2019 levels in the first half of the year, with over 14 million foreign visitors recorded.

Preliminary estimates suggest that approximately 11 million foreigners visited China during the time.

Bin Dai, President of the China Tourism Academy, remarked that payment facilitation measures, such as "large transactions via credit card, small payments via QR code, and cash as a fallback," have effectively enhanced the consumer experience for inbound tourists.

"Alongside the steady growth in inbound visitors and tourist spending, foreign tourists' satisfaction has also steadily improved. Satisfaction levels in both the first and second quarters of 2024 exceeded historical averages, continuing an upward trend," Mr. Dai added.
