The Airbnb growth juggernaut slowed

Airbnb said nights booked during the Paris Olympics in the second quarter were more than twice the nights booked a year earlier.

In Q2 2024, net income decreased to $555 million in Q2 2024 from $650 million in Q2 2023 primarily due to an increase in income taxes.

Revenue was $2.75 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 11%. The increase in revenue was driven by the strong growth in Nights and Experiences Booked and a modest increase in ADR. Revenue growth in Q2 2024 moderated sequentially relative to Q1 2024, primarily due to the timing of Easter and the inclusion of Leap Day in Q1.

In Asia Pacific, Nights and Experiences Booked increased by 19% on a year-over-year basis. This region is generally reliant on cross-border travel and in Q2 2024, cross-border travel to Asia Pacific grew 22% year-over-year. Airbnb is encouraged by the recovery of the outbound China business.
