The first scheduled flight, a Boeing 787, landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Tuesday night. The airline will now operate three flights planned to VIA weekly.
Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL)’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef said the launch of Xiamen Air flights to the Maldives will contribute to achieving the Maldives’ goal of attracting two million tourists this year.
In addition to Xiamen Air, four Chinese airlines currently fly to the Maldives. They are Beijing Capital, Sichuan Airlines, Chongqing Airlines, and China Eastern.
