Cathay Pacific Airways announced Monday that it had bought back 50 percent of the government's preference shares for HK$9.75 billion, and plans to buy the remainder by the end of next July. A total of HK$19.5 billion in preference shares were issued to the SAR government as part of the group's recapitalization financing in 2020.

China Eastern flight makes emergency landing after engine fails

A China Eastern Airlines flight directed to Hong Kong from Shanghai was forced to perform an emergency landing in Xiamen, southeastern Fujian province, because of an engine failure. Flight MU721 safely landed at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 9.59 a.m. last Sunday after experiencing an engine failure, the Shanghai-based airline announced on Weibo at 11.00 a.m. on the same day, without disclosing the specific cause of the accident.

Juneyao Airlines to take full ownership Of 9 Air

In a Shanghai stock exchange announcement, China’s Juneyao Airlines says it will take full ownership of LCC 9 Air by acquiring the 3.05% of the latter airline’s shares owned by 9 Air Chairman Ji Guangping. The all-cash deal is estimated to be worth CNY143 million ($20.2 million). 

Tourist dies after completing the world's second-highest bungy jump in China 

A 56-year-old tourist has died after taking a leap from one of the world’s highest bungy jumps, at China’s Macau Tower. The tourist started experiencing shortness of breath after completing the 233m jump on Sunday afternoon, reported Daily Mail. Officials said the tourist, who had a Japanese passport, experienced shortness of breath and ended up losing consciousness shortly after the jump.

US lawmakers want to cancel Northern Marianas visa policy for Chinese tourists

US lawmakers have raised their concern about the United States' visa policy for Chinese nationals entering the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas (CNMI). They want the Department of Homeland Security to mandate visa requirements across all territories.
