ForwardX, a developer of computer vision robots, recently announced that it has received USD 10 million in financing. CDH Investment was the lead investor, and Eastern Bell Venture Capital also participated.
ForwardX has developed OVIS, a vision-powered luggage case. Using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and multiple sensors, the suitcase is able to follow the owner. It can also adjust its speed, using algorithms, to keep pace with the owner. During operation, the embedded ultrasonic sensor enables OVIS to accurately sense the environment and calculate the distance and direction of obstacles.
OVIS is also equipped with mobile charging, electronic locking, smart weight measurement, bracelet positioning and other features. To avoid suitcase loss, it is even fitted with a smart alarm. The wristband will sound an alarm when the suitcase is more than three meters away from the owner, when the battery power gets extremely low or when there is a violent collision, to remind the owner to check on the bag.
OVIS is available for pre-ordering at the Indiegogo website for USD 399, and is expected to be released by the end of this year.
