Shanghai Disney Resort received 27,000 visitors daily and turned over RMB 15 million in revenue each day in June. The resort’s hotels received 1,000 guests each day and registered RMB 3 million daily revenue on average that month, according to Xuejie Ma, deputy director of Pudong New Area Commission of Commerce in Shanghai.
Based on the daily visitor number in June, Shanghai Disney Resort is projected to received 9.85 million visitors in the first year of operation. The projection is consistent with Haitong Securities’ estimate of 10 million, but falls short of Sinolink Securities’ projection of 17 million.
The projected performance puts Shanghai Disney Resort at 10th among top theme parks in the world, behind Disney parks in Tokyo, Los Angeles and Florida.
Shanghai Disney Resort is expected to generate RMB 6.57 billion revenue per year, higher than Hong Kong Disneyland’s HKD 5.114 billion (RMB 4.39 billion) but far below Tokyo Disney Resort’s JPY 465.3 billion (RMB 30.4 billion).
Since opening, Shanghai Disney Resort had to suspend some services from time to time due to equipment failures. The suspensions, while reassuring in terms of safety, undermined visitors’ experience to a certain extent. (Translated by Jerry)
