Gulf carriers are moving faster than mainland Chinese airlines in restoring China-Middle East air links.

Cathay Pacific announced that it will resume passenger flights from Hong Kong to Dubai and Riyadh starting September 1.

The Hong Kong-Dubai route will operate daily using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, while the Hong Kong-Riyadh route will operate four times weekly with Airbus A350 jets.

Additionally, Cathay Cargo plans to resume freight services to Riyadh from August 1.

Cathay Pacific is the first Chinese airline to resume flights to the Middle East.

Currently, mainland Chinese airlines have yet to resume services on routes from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to Middle Eastern hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Tehran.

By contrast, foreign carriers including Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways have already restored their China services. Emirates currently operates 49 weekly round trips to Chinese mainland, featuring double-daily services to Beijing and Shanghai, as well as daily flights to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.

Qatar Airways operates 56 weekly flights to and from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Hangzhou, including double-daily service to Shanghai
