
The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has released updated aviation data for August. An analysis of scheduled passenger flights between China and the United States shows that in August, the China–U.S. routes offered a total capacity of 253,400 seats, carried 224,100 passengers, and recorded an average load factor of 88.44%.
According to the data, there were 18 routes connecting 8 Chinese cities and 7 U.S. cities (excluding Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan). The Shanghai Pudong–Los Angeles route is served by three airlines: China Eastern, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. The Beijing Capital–Los Angeles and Beijing Capital–San Francisco routes are jointly operated by Air China and United Airlines, while the Shanghai Pudong–San Francisco route is jointly operated by China Eastern and United Airlines. All remaining routes are operated by a single carrier.
In terms of passenger volume, the Shanghai Pudong–Los Angeles route carried 37,538 passengers, making it the busiest route between the two countries.
Regarding average load factor, Air China’s Shenzhen–Los Angeles and Sichuan Airlines’ Chengdu Tianfu–Los Angeles routes both reached 100%. In addition, Xiamen Airlines’ routes to Los Angeles and New York JFK both recorded load factors exceeding 95%.
