The Indian airline is targeting value-conscious leisure and business travelers after visa reopening.

After a five-year suspension of direct flights between China and India, IndiGo has became the first airline to announce a resumption. Starting October 26, 2025, the carrier will reopen its Kolkata–Guangzhou route, marking the first reinstated direct connection between the two countries.

On July 23 this year, the Indian Embassy in China officially announced the resumption of tourist visas for Chinese citizens — the first time since the suspension in 2020 — directly reigniting the long-suppressed demand for travel from China to India.

As India’s largest airline by market share, IndiGo has the operational strength to support rapid expansion. The carrier currently operates a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, runs around 2,200 flights daily, and served over 118 million passengers in fiscal year 2025. It also holds the record for the world’s largest single aircraft order — 500 Airbus A320-family jets.

According to China Times, IndiGo will deploy the Airbus A320neo on its Guangzhou–Kolkata route, with one-way fares around RMB 1,300-1,500 (about USD 183-211). The pricing aligns with the airline’s low-cost positioning and effectively targets the “value-conscious” leisure and business segments emerging after the visa reinstatement.
