Starting July 6, 2025, China’s low-cost carrier Spring Airlines will increase service between Japan’s Saga Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport to four round trips per week. Currently operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the route will add a Sunday round-trip flight.
Founded in 2004, Spring Airlines launched the Saga-Shanghai route in January 2012, marking the first international route from Saga Airport. In October 2019, the airline also introduced a route connecting Saga with Xi’an.
The Saga-Shanghai route was suspended for roughly three and a half years due to Covid-19 and resumed service in September 2023.
According to the Airport Division of the Regional Exchange Department of Saga Prefecture, the Saga-Shanghai route has maintained an 85% average load factor since the start of 2025, indicating a steady recovery in passenger demand.
