Shangri-La Group has announced the appointment of Chris Tung, former Chief Marketing Officer of Alibaba Group, as its Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and concurrently as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for China.
As CMO, Mr. Tung will oversee Shangri-La’s global marketing and communications strategies, spearhead marketing innovation, and enhance business capabilities to support the group’s long-term strategic development.
In his role as China CEO, he will oversee the business transformation in the region, leveraging his deep understanding of the Chinese market and consumer behavior to strengthen market presence, with a particular focus on the JEN by Shangri-La and Traders hotel brands.
According to information on official website, Mr. Tung brings extensive experience from leading companies such as Alibaba Group, VML China, Procter & Gamble, Charm Communications, and L'Oréal. He is widely recognized for creating iconic campaigns like the "Taobao Maker Festival" and the "Tmall Double 11 Global Shopping Festival," both regarded as benchmark events in the industry.
Notably, Shangri-La Group in recent years welcomed several senior leaders with strong internet industry credentials.
For example, Chenchao Zhuang, co-founder of Qunar.com, currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Shangri-La.
Similarly, Jiancheng Yang, who previously served as Shangri-La’s Chief Technology Officer, was formerly Product Director at Qunar, where he played a key role in building core systems including the agency distribution platform, revenue management system, and international hotel distribution network.
