Jeju Island tourism to surge in 2024 with increased air, sea routes

The southern resort island of Jeju in South Korea expects to see a surge in the number of international travelers next year with the expansion of air and sea routes connecting it with the cities of other countries in Asia. Spring Airlines and other carriers are adding multiple weekly flights to and from various Chinese cities.

The outbound tourism market is expected to see robust growth during the upcoming New Year's Day holiday from Dec 30 to Jan 1, with Asian countries as top destinations, tourism operators said. Alibaba's travel branch Fliggy recorded a 10-fold increase in bookings for overseas trips during the holiday when compared with 2022, according to its report released on Tuesday. Countries in eastern and southeastern Asia are the most favored destinations, including Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, Fliggy said.

China's first homegrown large cruise ship begins trial voyage

China's first domestically-built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, commenced its trial voyage on Saturday, with the first commercial journey set for January 1, 2024. The first trial operation is expected to conclude next Monday, and the second trial will head to Japan and South Korea before its commercial operation begins.

Northern China ice and snow journey invites global visitors

"Nihao! China" - the 2024 Northern China Ice and Snow Tourism Overseas Promotion Season was launched on Dec 21, inviting international tourists to explore the enchanting winter landscapes of China. The event is co-hosted by the China National Tourist Office and the China Cultural Center in Sydney, as well as the Network of International Culturallink Entities, in collaboration with the cultural and tourism departments (bureaus) from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang.

Air China plans up to $842 million share placement to buy planes, boost capital

Air China plans to raise up to 6.0 billion yuan ($842 million) in a private share sale on the Shanghai Stock Exchange to expand its fleet and replenish working capital, it said on Friday. The flagship carrier is aiming to sell up to 854.7 million shares, equivalent to 30% of its existing capital, to its controlling shareholder China National Aviation Holding Corporation Limited, it said in a statement to the Shanghai exchange.
