Tencent-backed Airwallex’s valuation rises to $5.5 billion after latest funding

>> Airwallex, a fintech unicorn backed by Tencent, said its valuation soared to USD 5.5 billion following its latest oversubscribed round of fundraising. The company raised USD 100 million in its Series E1 funding, which was led by Lone Pine Capital and included investments from 1835i Ventures and Sequoia Capital China.

Mainland, Hong Kong eased travel can aid Macau in 2022

>> Macau’s 2022 casino gross gaming revenue might reach 60% of the pre-Covid 19 level seen in 2019, if the city succeeds in easing travel arrangements with Hong Kong, and sees further improvements in movement between mainland China and Macau, according to Benjamin Toh Hup Hock, chief financial officer (CFO) at Macau casino operator SJM Holdings.

Hong Kong Disneyland closes for one day as staff take COVID-19 tests

>> Hong Kong's Disneyland will close for a day on Wednesday for staff to take compulsory COVID-19 tests after authorities found one person who visited the theme park over the weekend was infected with the coronavirus. Disneyland said in a statement that the closure was out of "an abundance of caution" and advised visitors to reschedule.

Shanghai Disney fined by market regulators for food safety violation

>> Shanghai Disney Resort has come under fire again for violation of China's food safety law. The resort's operator has recently been assessed a fine of 70,000 yuan (USD 10,948) by the Pudong New Area Administration for Market Regulation. A cake served to a diner at the resort's Royal Banquet Hall in June contained a foreign matter, according to the administrative penalty notice issued by the administration on Tuesday.

Construction of LEGOLAND theme park begins in Shanghai

>> Construction work began on LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort in the city's southwest early on Wednesday. The resort, invested by Shanghai Jinshan Urban Construction Investment Group, KIRKBI, Merlin Entertainments and CMC Inc, is set to open to the public in 2024. Notably, it will be the first LEGOLAND park to have a famous LEGO product line inspired by a timeless Chinese legend.

China's civil aviation regulator seeks feedback on Boeing 737 Max

>> China's civil aviation regulator has confirmed that modifications made by Boeing to its 737 Max plane can eliminate safety concerns. The Civil Aviation Administration of China said in a notice that it is seeking feedback from the airline industry in China by Nov 26 on a proposed airworthiness directive for the Boeing 737 Max.
