The U.S. State Department warned U.S. citizens Thursday to exercise increased caution when traveling to China.
In a travel advisory posted online, the State Department warned of arbitrary enforcement of local laws, as well as of special restrictions on dual U.S.-Chinese nationals.
Specifically, the department cited China's use of "exit bans" to keep U.S. citizens in China, allegedly in order to force them to participate in Chinese government investigations, lure other individuals back from abroad or aid Chinese authorities in resolving disputes in favor of Chinese parties.
