14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit kicks off in Xi'an

Brand USA, the destination marketing organization for the United States, joined by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, hosted the 14th U.S.–China Tourism Leadership Summit in Xi'an, China, from May 21-23, 2024.

The event brought together government and travel industry leaders from the United States and China to foster the return of Chinese visitors to the United States.

A Brand USA file shows that flight volume from China to the U.S. started to pick up from November 2023, but just reached 22.7% by April 2024.

In 2019, China was the No.1 spender in the U.S. with an average spend of $11,746 per visitor.

The National Travel and Tourism Office projected that outbound travel from China to the U.S. will reach 95% of the pre-pandemic level by 2025.
