The partnership offers access to over 144 destinations across 22 countries and regions, including Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.

Marriott, Delonix form strategic cooperation in mainland China

Marriott International and Delonix Group, one of the leading China-based hospitality companies, announced a long-term cooperation agreement under which the two companies will work together to grow Marriott's Tribute Portfolio brand in mainland China. The Delonix portfolio currently includes ten hotel brands with over 1,400 hotels open or in the development pipeline. The parties anticipate that at least 100 properties could become part of the Tribute Portfolio over the coming years.

Macau sees strong tourism recovery in 2023 but spending softens

Macau’s tourism industry continued its strong recovery in 2023 with visitor arrivals reaching 28.2 million, representing 71.6% of the pre-pandemic levels when the city welcomed 39.4 million tourists. But vibrant arrivals numbers don’t always translate to rising spending levels. The value of retail sales in Q3 dipped by -5.9% quarter-on-quarter.

The Shenzhen Bay border crossing between Hong Kong and mainland China will operate around the clock over the Lunar New Year holiday and the Lo Wu checkpoint will extend its operating hours as residents and tourists are expected to make 7.5 million trips during the festive period, senior officials have said. The government on Tuesday said it expected Lo Wu to be the busiest control point during the holiday period between February 10 and 13, with cross-border and cross-departmental efforts put in place to ensure smooth operations.

China's island province reports 9.2% GDP growth in 2023

Hainan, China's southernmost province with popular tourist destinations like Sanya, saw its GDP grow by 9.2 percent in 2023 as booming tourism turbocharged economic recovery, according to Hainan governor Liu Xiaoming. The tropical island province is eyeing GDP growth of around 8 percent for 2024, Liu said while delivering a government work report at the annual session of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress. The province, which is known for its scenic beaches and offshore duty-free stores, last year reported a 49.9 percent increase in tourist arrivals and a 71.9 percent rise in tourism revenues, according to Liu.

Tourism players should fully leverage on the 30-day visa exemption granted to Chinese and Indian visitors to Malaysia, says the Sabah body-in-charge. Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Satta) president Datuk Seri Winston Liaw said with the state already being among the top preferred destinations for China tourists, greater success can be achieved.

H World adds 852 hotels in a year 

China's hotel chain giant H World Group said its RevPAR in domestic hotel operations has recovered to 120% of pre-pandemic level in the last quarter of 2023, supported by the sustained recovery in both leisure and business travel demand. For the company's overseas assets, the Steigenberger Hotels GmbH and its subsidiaries (DH), RevPAR in Q4 2023 recovered to 111% of the 2019 level. The company recorded a net increase of 852 hotels to its network in the full year of 2023.
