The Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) authority has signed an agreement with Ctrip to boost air traffic between China and Spain with a special focus on commercial and cultural partnership opportunities.

The deal between China’s largest travel service provider and AENA will contribute to improving the experience of passengers of Chinese nationality in the airports of the AENA network, which include Madrid Barajas Airport and Barcelona El Prat Airport, while the collaboration will also increase connectivity and open up commercial relationship between China and Latin America through these airports’ passenger traffic.

The President and CEO of AENA, Maurici Lucena, and the Senior Vice President of Shanghai Ctrip Commerce, Li Xiaoping signed the collaboration agreement on 5 December, in the presence of Spain’s acting Minister for Public Works and Transport Jose Luis Abalos.

AENA said it will look into updating and expanding its services for Ctrip customers – Asian and Chinese passengers – across commercial services such as personal shoppers for retail and restaurant recommendations to help guide the region’s travelers when they visit the airport authority’s airports.
