Bookings for Thailand for the period from October 1 to 10 had increased 24 percent, and the total number of Chinese visitors is expected to reach 9 to 9.5 million this year.

The report said Thailand rose to the first choice as a result of the country's regulation of its tourism sector, including a crackdown on budget tours.

Thailand's tourism chief had estimated a recovery in the number of Chinese tourists in the fourth quarter, with a projected growth of 71 percent.

The average spending of Chinese travelers abroad is estimated to be higher than 8,000 yuan (USD 1,224) during the holiday from October 1 to 8, according to a report. Southeast Asia and Japan were also popular destinations.
