Shenzhen Airport has put in a project plan application for a new Terminal 4 (T4) to expand its capacity to 65 million passengers annually as the airport’s passenger throughput has been climbing at an annual rate of 10% for the last three years, topping 35 million last year.
Since adding a new terminal a year ago, Shenzhen Airport has registered the fastest growth in its flight network since 1992 with the addition of five international and 22 domestic destinations.
Shenzhen Airport Group’s general manager of planning Bingran Wang said: “We have applied to build T4 as passenger throughput is expected to increase to 45 million by 2016. The new terminal will expand our capacity to handle 65 million passengers per year.”
In addition to the new terminal, commercial development has begun in terminals A and B and a mega shopping mall is being planned for the airport area.(Translation by David）
