Indonesia holds tourism sales mission in southern Chinese cities

Indonesia is planning to tap into the enormous outbound market of China as it tries to reach its foreign tourist arrival target at 20 million in 2019.

An official from the Indonesian tourism ministry said that they are planning to hold a sales mission to reach into the market potential of southern Chinese cities.

The official said that they are planning to introduce tour packages of Bali and the nation's 10 new destinations including Tanjung Kelayang, Tanjung Lesung, Thousands Island, Lake Toba, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru volcanoes, Labuan Bajo, Morotai, Borobudur Temple, Wakatobi, and Batam-Bintan.

They also plan to showcase a variety of Indonesian traditional and cultural performance during the sales mission program scheduled on May 7 to 9 in Zhuhai and in Meizhou. Vincensius Jemadu, assistant deputy minister of Great China Marketing Development, said that focus of the upcoming sales mission is to further promote Indonesia's 10 new destinations and they expect to get optimal package sales so as to significantly contribute to the nation's targets on China tourism market.

Indonesia is planning to tap into the enormous outbound market of China as it tries to reach its foreign tourist arrival target at 20 million in 2019. In 2018, the number of Chinese tourists traveling to Indonesia reached 2.13 million which marked a 2.71 percent increase than in the previous year. Aside from its planned sales mission and tourism promotion in China, Indonesia also plans to reach Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand as hubs to increase the arrivals of Chinese tourists in the country.

Indonesia plans to attract tourists who wish to continue their vacations to Indonesian destinations from the three countries. Last year, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand accepted a large number of Chinese tourists. Singapore received around 3.18 million tourists, Malaysia was visited by 2.2 million Chinese and Thailand accepted 8.9 million in 2018.

According to the data gathered by the national statistics bureau of Indonesia, the number of foreign holidaymakers who visited the country in the first quarter increased by 4.28 percent to 3.82 million people year-on-year.

The number of foreign visitors in Bali resort island, the center of tourism in Indonesia, increased by 4.41 percent to 2.2 million people.
